POLYVORE is not the place to look for Vegas-packing-inspiration
aka: What I will put in my suitcase….
I’ve been to Vegas a couple times… but only once to hang out with friends, cruise the strip, play at casinos and get slightly toasty. What I learned, when I was there last, is that nobody cares what you wear (for the most part) but there are some people who get “quintessentially Vegas’ed-out” to hang out in Sin City.
The IDEA of a Vegas outfit seems to conjure ideas of satin mini dresses, sky-high heels (5″ Chloes?!?) and something like this:

WELCOME TO LAS VEGAS!!!!!! – by ? KuKi ? on Polyvore.com
All the women glam up, teeter around on their big shoes, drink crazy martinis and play roulette.
After a good block of time spent trolling Ye Olde Polyvore for cute outfit ideas (read: I don’t know what I’m going to put in my suitcase), I decided that I’d really just have to sit down in front of my closet (or Polyvore!) and hope a couple magic ensembles pop out of it to save the day. Everybody says flat shoes are a must, everybody says “pack a couple nice things for going out”, everybody tells you to pack light so you don’t have to wait for the baggage carousel but how many people tell you what they put in their suitcase?
So my plan is this:
Friday, I’ll wear a dolman top with a cami, jeans and ballet flats. It’ll look cute out on the strip, but totally work appropriate. Maybe I’ll throw on some chunky silver earrings, my lapis lazuli ring and call it an outfit!
Saturday, we’ll be out and about all day. I’m thinking my little t-shirt dress, tights and slip, and Friday’s cardigan. That will be the matzoh soup, Mirage Bloody Marys, tigers, forum shops and Wynn grandeur day. We may not get to all of that, but you understand that we’ll be on our feet for a huge part of the day. I can wear some fun jewelery to jazz it up too, since we’ll probably go out to a schmancy dinner (I hope it’s at Gabi’s again. I love the Paris!). I could definitely wear the tan suede boots and brown/gold jewelery or a scarf and ballet flats. Who says you can’t wear brown and black together? Hmm??!
I imagine it looking like this:

Simple, chic, totally laid back for walking the strip, playing craps, checking out movies, or whatever adventure we may come across. I think when planning what to pack for Vegas, ladies should remember that it’s not all nightclubs and dance parties. Also the strip is about 4 miles long, and if you want to play cheap craps at the Imperial Palace, get a fantastic Bloody Mary at the Mirage, stroll the forum shops, try to see the tigers, and view the grandeur of the Wynn, you’re going to need to be comfortable, functional, and cute all at the same time.

friday and sunday – by shawnabird on Polyvore.com
Sunday is football day, so I’ll be hanging out with Mister and his pals. I think I’d be most comfortable in those jeans I wore Friday, the cowl neck top I acquired at H&M, with the little ballet flats and that cardigan that’s whoring itself out over my Vegas wardrobe plans. I could wear big round earrings, and the Vegas-dad aviators I inherited last year. The outfit sounds like ultra comfy-football wear while still being cute enough to go out and throw dice later.
I’m thinking, for the plane ride home, I might rock my little gray tulip skirt tights again, and a chunky, comfy sweater for our return to the frozen north. I’ll wear those suede boots again, and be both airplane and classroom appropriate since my Midterm (accounting – eep!) is that night. I’ll opt not to wear the cardigan, because it’s going to reek of casino-stank. That is a technical term. If you’ve experienced that, you’ll know what I’m talking about. YUCK!
I still need to maybe stop and pick up a little handbag that’s small enough to tote around without being ridiculous, but large enough to hold my essentials. H&M has bags that look like the mini shoulder bag in my Polyvore set. Perfect!
Total outfit tally:
1 pair jeans
2 casual but nice tops
2 camis
1 slip
1 dress
1 cardigan
1 skirt
1 comfy sweater
1 (maybe 2) pair of tights
ballet flats
tan suede boots
tan scarf
fun jewelery
That’s not bad at all for a weekend trip! MMMM Vegas, here I come.

I love that purse in the first Polyvore. Have so much fun!
@Freya – I KNOW!!!! It’s an amazing bag.
I have to have something that I won’t set down and walk off without, though. Such is my life! haha
