Where the Magic Happens

So I got tagged for the “Show us your Blog Spot” meme that Winona at DaddyLikey started. It’s all Ashe Mischief’s fault, really. So Bonne Vie would like to present you: Where the Magic Happens!

This is my desk. It’s total hand-me-down Ikea goodness. It’s like a tower of awesome with my PC nestled into it. You can see the battery charger for my Canon, the Destroyed by Design elephant for the giveaway, my view out the window… complete with a valance made of shimmy-fringe from the solstice parade/burlesque, multicolored lights and plants. I like the lights – they produce ambient, and cheap lighting.

Here’s the plants. They’re pretty cool. I just re-potted a few of them, so they’re getting used to their new digs. Yes, that’s a strawberry planter with a succulent in it. Also, Mister has this thing about “decorating” the plants, so he has all these tiny toys or rocks or whatnot that he’s nestled in with the plants. You may not be able to see it here, but that plant in the middle has 2 plastic cows and a marble. He called them the Dada cows.

This is the mask I made to ride in the Solstice parade. I wore that mask, a lot of fringe, some tulle for a tail, boots and a LOT of paint. There were 3 of us ladies in bird masks; I was the “Voltaire” bird. It was actually a TON of fun.

My family is partly Irish, so there’s a 4-leaf clover on my desk. Actually, Mister got this somewhere and since he moved in it’s been on my desk. It sits right in front of all my French books (because my family is also partly French and indigenous American). You can kinda see Le Monstre Dans Le Metro and my Becherelle, and maybe some Petit Nicolas. I read kids books in French. It’s awesome.

For my birthday a couple years ago, Scarlet got me this gas mask. It’s kind of propping up my Solstice mask. It’s actually slightly scary looking when you put it on. It needs to be incorporated into a photo shoot, possibly involving Martha Stewart, I just haven’t had time and Martha never returned my calls. What’s with that??

My dad was on a ship in the armed forces, and apparently he wore this hat at times. I got this as a hand me down, along with 2 pair of 13 button pants and a cool pea coat. The pea coat has since been stolen by an evil gnome, but I’ll get over it. Its been around the world, and that’s amazing.

This is Buddha. If you rub his tummy, you might get lucky. He sits in front of a stack of books on my desk. He’s on the second shelf.
Here’s that stack of books. There’s a REALLY old book from overseas containing the poetry of Robert Frost; a bunch of English and media studies textbooks; the compete works of Poe; Only Revolutions by Mark Z. Danielewski (he’s amaaaazing – I need to re-purchase House of Leaves); some Anais Nin; Chuck Palahnuik’s new book Snuff, which is autographed as such: “To Birdie, Everybody’s favorite number. XX Chuck”; The Egyptian Book of the Dead, complete with hieroglyphs; and Ayn Rand’s Fountainhead. There are one or two other books, but we’ll get to that in a minute. Also, there’s this photo which is great:

My dad is a pretty cool guy. He volunteers for a fire department, and here he is, nonchalantly standing next to a brush fire. They put the fire out… and this picture is an excellent epitome of my dad!

Okay, I’ve read both of Rand’s great opuses and as a story, I enjoyed Fountainhead more. However, as a learning experience, Atlas Shrugged was pretty amazing. There’s a box of treasure under Atlas full of 50 cent pieces and Francs. There’s this really cool little carved elephant, and I think it’s a pipe, though it’s definitely not used as such. I think it came from somewhere exotic. There’s also a name tag thing from my BDNF’s army uniform, and a blue butterfly Duncan yo-yo in the background.

I’m obviously a well-spoken princess who reads Edgar Allan Poe. The tiara was for a birthday tirade, again, from Scarlet. It’s sitting on a piece of pink tissue paper.

Mister went to USC and as part of the wooing, he loaned me his class ring to wear on a chain around my neck. It’s heavy, so it sits on my desk instead. Also, there’s a tin of Texas mints with a little plastic Triceratops on it. I love the dinos, and I got this little guy when Mister and I went on a date to the “Family Fun Center” and played skee-ball and Soul Caliber (I’m a button masher, but I kick ass) and mini-golf and took photo booth pictures. Good times!

I inherited this beer stein from one of my amazing friends, who used to live in the room where our office and my desk currently reside. I needed a place to put all my paintbrushes, and she didn’t want it, so it worked out well for both of us.

This one is CONSTANTLY trying to steal my office chair, which she is BLATANTLY sitting on. Her name is Iola and she’s cute, but strange. She breathes very loudly and has dermatitis (bald spot – the vet says she’s totally okay) but she’s funny and poses for pictures. Also, I think one of her eyes drifts slightly outward. She likes to steal my office chair because it’s the amazing old bungee chair from Frequency 8. My friend Seth gave it to me, because I needed an office chair. Both he and the chair are sweet!
That’s my office, and where MOST of the magic happens. Some of the magic happens elsewhere… and only Pony and Mister know where that is. If I told you, I might have to take you out… for a drink…. so you wouldn’t remember… or something.

PONY knows what’s up!

I don’t know who to tag – maybe Miss Elle? Maybe Foxy? Also, Hayden Tompkins!! How about everyone?!

Bisous!!

Am I now tagged via reading and looking about your office. I love it! All you need now is a gnome. We have them “hidden” everywhere in our house! All our book shelves are in the dining room, we love the eduated dinner! Ha, only place they all fit.

Aww – thanks, ladies! My entire apartment is a mash of things that go together really well, and things that are slightly offbeat. :)
