London Adventure Part 2
Part two of my amazing adventure! Read on:
Day 4-
We set off to the Tate Modern again to catch the 2 other exhibits that we’d missed including some Warhol and a lot of great sculpture. We decided to go up and check out St Paul’s – apparently the building has 3 domes that you can climb up into, and one has amazing acoustics; however the line was long and it was expensive to get into the dome. The building is cool, though – especially when lit up at night. We decided to go down and see the tower of London and surrounding area until it was time to meet up with friends. The Tower of London is more like a castle than a tower and was abuzz with long lines and huge crowds but we had an amazing view of the bridge from there and decided to grab dinner at a place called “Hung Drawn and Quartered”. After dinner we had a chance to meet up with good friends in Moorsgate. While en route on the tube, a crazy accordion lady hopped on and started playing cheesy accordion music. It was awesome and I couldn’t help but laugh; everybody looked like they either couldn’t keep from laughing or wanted to shoot themselves. I thought she was hilarious. We met my friend and went to Camden to The World’s End where we drank the cheapest Jamesons I’ve ever bought. When we all decided to move on, we stopped at a pub to catch another soccer match, and I ended up playing pool on the world’s tiniest table. We met some interesting people – including one guy from Bellevue. Lost at pool and was towed back to Paddington where we all crashed after a big snack.
Day 5 –
We left the hotel late and had breakfast out by Tottingham station and then met Mademoiselle Robot for coffee. We talked blogging and life and why London is awesome. She’s fantastic, and very smart and sweet. She told gave us the lowdown on some cool places to go, and then had to run out for a meeting so we headed back to Oxford to do a little shopping. We walked around discussing the ins and outs of modern art and I bought a cute Ben Sherman shirt dress. Had food and then headed back to hotel. I decided to stay in read, and relax. I was so tired from all the walking and fun that I definitely felt the need to just hang out by myself for a bit.
Day 6 –
We wandered around and did some more shopping and a ton of photo-taking. It started out as a very nice day so we walked around the bottom of Hyde park and found a little stable. Next trip to London I have vowed to get myself on a horse for a loop around the park. We wandered around for a good while taking photos and finally stopped at a little pub for a drink where we found ourselves trying all the London ales. As we left the little pub just south of Hyde park, the rain set in and we were quickly drenched. We ran through the park with one short stop to harass a swan and finally, when we got to the hotel, I had to dry my clothes off with a hairdryer. Bini came over and we got ready for Ministry of Sound, hopped a train and went. We arrived at MoS, danced, had a glass of wine, helped a girl with a cleavage problem, danced a bit more, drank exactly 2 too-expensive beers, had an enormous hotdog, did more dancing, took funny pictures, went home and crashed.
Day 7 -
When we finally got up, I decided it was time to take off on my own to take photos and enjoy the sun and I did just that: took photos, enjoyed sun. I spent some time on the Serpentine and had green lemony tea while I read. I took probably 20 more pictures and strolled through the park. I found myself close to the V&A museum where they have an amazing fashion exhibit, as well as a hats exhibit (FANCY HATS!) and a bunch of amazing artifact and sculptures! I was also close enough to visit the natural history museum, which was very full of children. I walked down to Harrods, which was close, and took more photos. I finally hopped a train and ended up down on the Thames (oops!), so I hopped a train back to the hotel to meet my travel partner for the Chelsea match. We went out for food and had delicious pie and went back to the hotel for an early sleep.
My thoughts: I loved London, actually. The fusion of old buildings meets modern life really gave the city some charm. The best part were the lovely characters I got to meet – from my friend Al, to Mademoiselle Robot, to the Swede at the pub in Camden. I only wish I had more time to spend hanging out with those wonderful guys and gals who really made the trip great. I also feel like without really knowing where we were going, a week wasn’t nearly enough. Sure we wandered around and saw a lot of interesting things, but there’s so much more that we didn’t esperience. I’m already plotting how to get myself back there (Do you live there and want an excellent houseguest??).
SO that’s where I was and what I did and it seems like it’s been AGES since I returned! But I definitely missed you all… What have YOU been up to?!
You can view more of the London photos here!
XOXO
