Whose Hose is This!?
So I went to that arty cocktail party and I posted a couple photos up, and I got a question that made me laugh a little… One reader asked “Are you wearing HOSE!?!”
I responded with a, “Hell yeah! It was totally cold out and nobody could tell because it was dark…” And then I kind of wondered if there was some fashion faux-pas involving the wearing of hose. At best, is hose old lady-like??
Now, I have to admit, I normally wear stockings. Apart from making me feel like a burlesque kitten or sultry secretary, stockings are often more comfortable and versatile. There’s a range of options – from thigh-high’s to actual stockings with belts. You can find many of them with a back-seam which is ultra hot.
There are some days, though, where I want the coverage of tights without the color and I have a pair of actual hose just for that. Straight up nude nylon material I bought from Victoria’s Secret. I don’t call them hose, they’re my nude tights. They’re very practical in these in-between months when it’s not yet one of the two main seasons we have here in the northwest (we have a season of blue skies and a season of grey skies – and a couple days in between). I want to wear something bare-legged and if it’s at all cold out, I’ll slap on a pair of nude leg wear and call it an adventure. On the plus side, a lot of hose, tights and whatnot have control tops and shaping features. Some of my favorite nude leg wear options also make my ass look fantastic! Not to brag, of course…
I hear, though, that hose – or nude leg wear – is out. I’ve read that it’s best to freeze your tuchus off by going bare-legged or if you want color, put on leg makeup to avoid the “sausage casing look”. That sounds straight silly to me. If your legs look like encased sausage in your hose, you haven’t purchased the right color or kind. You have to do a little research!
So what’s your take? Is nude leg wear “awesome” or “old lady”?
I think nude leg wear is awesome. There is a stigma attached though, since incorrect hose color can result in strange, fake sausage-looking legs. The obvious beauty of that is that hose does come in more than a few shades. As far as nudes go, though, here are some nude choices that I’d definitely try:

See – in both of these photos, the leg wear is a fairly close match to the model’s skin tone. When you purchase the hose, you want to look at the little sample and spread it out as much as you can over your wrist/arm. By doing this, you can see whether or not the hose is going to be well matched to your skin. I urge you to stay away from tights that are coined “glossy” unless you want that shiny metallic look on your legs.

Seriously?! I think I need a pair of the DKNY net tights and that pair of Vicki’s hose is ultra hot. The beauty of the Vicki’s line is it all comes in black too. That’s still hoisery – it’s just a different color. It’s a great debate, but I think you gals should keep your minds open when it comes to hose – just be sure you’re getting the right color hose for your skin tone when buying nudes.

I wear pantyhose whenever I wear a dressy skirt. I feel naked without it! But like you said, getting the right color is key. If you’re pale (like me), there’s a HUGE difference between wearing ‘nude’ and ‘suntan.’
I think we’re about the same glow in the dark color. Most nudes are “fake oompa loompa tan” on my skin too.

Then, I really enjoyed this entry of yours, I am of the opinion that stockings are mega sexy, but dont look hot when worn with sandals. Peeptoes and stockings are hot also. There is nothing that suggests that hose is for older ladies, it is sexy and being a man, color is not really that important to me, but black to me is super sexy, even on legs less shapely.

I tend to only wear tights and nylons if they’re a little funky (or if i forgot to shave my legs . . I mean what?). But I actually have two pairs of those with the black stripe up the back, one thigh high and one full. I love ‘em.

I love backseam stockings/nylons. I’m also always on the look out for funky nylons and tights (for those slightly hirsute days)!
I was hesitant at first about wearing pantyhose to work since people would tell “horror” stories to me about being itchy and uncomfy. Well yes it’s true, but only if you spend on the cheap ones. Buying Nordstroms brand, Wolford, some Euro brand, or Calvin Klein really makes a difference because they’re comfy. Plus, wearing the right color and size really helps. I do admit that my legs look a lot better when I wear hose.
